Apples can retain their quality for surprisingly long, especially if you store them in a dark and cold place. However, even if they are tougher than most fruit, not even they will last forever.

If you got your hands on more apples than you can eat in the next couple of weeks, don’t let them go to waste. Instead, freeze them and save them for later. When frozen, apples can retain their flavor and nutrients for a long time and will be quite pleasing once you thaw them for a smoothie or an apple pie. But you need to know how to do it properly.

Best Way to Freeze Apples

The first thing you need to do is to peel them and remove the skin. Then cut them in slices or wedges. It is up to you to decide whether you want thicker or slimmer.

Now, take a baking sheet and line it with parchment paper. Place the apple slices on a baking sheet in a single row while making sure they don’t touch. Pop the tray in a freezer for a few hours.

After the apple slices have been frozen through, take them out and put them in a Ziploc bag. Return to the freezer and have close-to-fresh apples anytime you want.
