There is nothing wrong with eating at cheap restaurants. Sure, you might not be getting top-notch service or fancy dishes, but they will keep you fed at a low cost, and the food is good most of the time. You only have to be careful not to order the wrong thing from the menu.

Media outlet Eat This, Not That! recently conducted a survey among professional chefs, and they identified several types of food that you should never order at cheap restaurants. Check them out below.

Daily Specials

Daily specials always seem like a good idea when you are not sure what to get, but you will end up regretting this decision for sure. This is because the daily specials are usually a tactic restaurants use to get rid of ingredients that are close to the expiry date.

Seafood

Quality and fresh fish usually don’t find their way to cheap restaurants due to budget constraints. This usually means that you’ll end up eating a fish that has either been frozen or sourced from a fish farm.

Steak

Cheap restaurants are cheap for a reason, so you can’t really expect the best cuts of meat. In reality, you’ll be getting the cheapest and toughest cuts, which is why ordering a steak in these restaurants isn’t worth it.

Chef’s Salad

Chef’s Salad has a fancy name, but that is the only thing fancy about it. You’ll probably end up with low-quality veggies, crotons, and some out-of-the-bag cheese splashed with some poor-looking dressing. You might want to eat healthily, but this isn’t the way to go.
