Steak and Sangiovese is always a great match! And this time I’m enjoying a delicious grilled rib eye and this Rosso di Montalcino from Tenuta San Polo @allegrini.winery selected at @tannico.it wine shop 🍷📦! Rosso di Montalcino is made from Sangiovese grapes within the historical borders of the Municipality of Montalcino as its bigger brother, the Brunello di Montalcino 🍇. This DOC was created in order to make the most of the grapes from younger vines. The idea was to make a fresh and fruity style that can be enjoyed young and needs considerably less ageing time than Brunello, which is released 5 years after the year of the harvest. This gives producers of Brunello something to sell while waiting for their Brunello to age. Rosso di Montalcino is released on the September 1st following the year of harvest.

Well, this Italian sommelier is an expert in wine and telling stories. She travels the world (mostly Europe) trying delicious wine and telling the stories of the vineyards that she visits.

The large majority of the wines that she tries and the wineries that she visits are from Italy. The best wines in the world are from here, so why not?

Etna has become one of Italy's most exciting wine regions. Its volcanic soils, high elevations and unique terroir give life to exceptional wines, characterized by a distinctive freshness, great aging potential and fascinating minerality (yes, this is one of the few regions where we can certainly talk about minerality). While Nerello Mascalese is the protagonist of red wines of Mount Etna, Carricante is definitely the main protagonist of white wines. In fact, Carricante is the key grape variety behind white wines made under the Etna DOC, and it is required in all of the denomination's white wines. Carricante is an ancient grape variety, indigenous to this extraordinary region. In fact, it is thought to have been growing on the volcanic slopes of Mount Etna for at least a thousand years. The variety is known for its marked acidity, and the high yields which inspired its name (carica means "load" in Italian). Today I’m tasting Buonora made by Tenuta Tascante @tascadalmerita from 100% Carricante grapes terracing on volcanic soils at 600 meters. In 1984, at the tender age of 20, Markus Molitor decided to take over his father's winery located in the heart of the German region of Mosel (home of the world’s finest Riesling wines). Although his young age, Markus Molitor had a clear aim: to produce Mosel Rieslings respecting his family winemaking tradition of eight generations.. but most of all, respecting the expression of this extraordinary grape variety in the terroir. In fact, when he took over the winery, while other Mosel producers were trying to compete with each other by making Rieslings that were sleeker and more elegant, he opted for structure, complexity and minerality as well as a great freshness and elegance… a true expression of his homeland’s amazing terroir and the full potential of this variety.
