Just like all amazing pasta dishes, Fettuccine Alfredo originated in Italy. But what’s surprising is that the Fettuccine Alfredo you have eaten your entire life is much different than the authentic version.

In the United States and most other parts of the world, Fettuccine Alfredo is made with heavy cream and is usually paired with chicken or seafood. However, the original dish only contains three ingredients: fettuccine pasta, butter, and Parmesan cheese.

If you would like to see how authentic Fettuccine Alfredo tastes, you can cook it up yourself in just a few minutes.

Authentic Fettuccine Alfredo Recipe

The recipe for authentic Fettuccine Alfredo was recently shared on TikTok by user @aripastaclub and it became quite popular among foodies due to its simplicity.

Prepare a warm plate that you will top with several slices of butter. After your fettuccine is cooked, drain it, but save up a cup of pasta water. Transfer the drained fettuccine to the butter plate and cover generously with grated Parmesan cheese. Add pasta water and mix well using a spoon and a fork until the butter and cheese turn into a creamy sauce. It’s ready to eat.
