Sticky Toffee Pudding is One Dessert That Will Really Wow a Crowd

Sticky toffee pudding is a classic English dessert that combines so many rich flavors to make a really outstanding cake. Serve this at any celebration and everyone will be gushing over it.

Cake

  1. Chop up 7 oz of pitted dates and add them to a bowl with 1 teaspoon of baking soda and 7 oz of boiling hot water.
  2. While the dates sit, add 5 tablespoons of softened unsalted butter to a bowl with 2 tablespoons of black treacle, or blackstrap molasses.
  3. Use an electric hand or stand mixer to cream everything together, and then add in 4 tablespoons of dark muscovado sugar and continue to mix.
  4. Add 2 large room temperature eggs and gently beat them in, followed by 3/4 cup of all purpose flour and 2 teaspoons of baking powder.
  5. Once all is combined, mash the dates with a fork before adding them to the mixing bowl.
  6. Pour the batter into a greased oven dish and bake at 355F for 30 minutes.

Toffee Sauce

  1. Add 10 tablespoons of unsalted butter to a saucepan and melt it on medium-low heat.
  2. Add 1 1/2 cups of dark muscovado sugar and 1 tablespoon of treacle or the blackstrap molasses.
  3. Swirl the pan around so everything melts together, and then once the butter has melted, you can stir it.
  4. Finally, add 1 cup of heavy whipping cream, and let the mixture come to a bubble.
  5. When the cake comes out of the oven, pour about a quarter over and enjoy!
