These Shrimp and Grits are Simply Sublime

Shrimp and grits is a fantastic southern classic that can be used for breakfast, lunch, or dinner. Though there is a lot of complex flavors, it’s actually not hard to put together. The whole thing comes together in just 45 minutes or less, and you have an incredible meal ready to go!

Ingredients:

  • 4 cups of water
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 1 cup of stone grits
  • 3 tablespoons of butter
  • 2 cups of shredded cheese
  • 1 pound of shrimp 
  • 6 slices of bacon 
  • 4 teaspoons of lemon juice
  • 2 tablespoons of parsley 
  • 1 green onion optional 

Instructions:

  1. In a large pot, bring water to a boil. 
  2. Add grits and cook for 20-25 minutes or until all the water has been absorbed. 
  3. Turn off the heat, put in the butter and cheese, and stir until everything melts together. 
  4. Cut up the bacon, fry it until the fat is rendered, and then take out the bacon and leave to the side. 
  5. Rinse off the shrimp, pat them dry, and then fry them in the bacon fat until they’re pink. 
  6. Turn off the heat and add in the lemon juice and parsley into the shrimp. 
  7. Plate the grits first, put the shrimp on top, and add any more parsley or green onion for garnish.
