You know how baking can be a relaxing activity that helps you deal with stress? The psychologists have discovered why baking, as well as other creative activities, are so beneficial for our mental health and wellbeing.

According to a study published in the Journal of Positive Psychology, creative activities help cultivate positive psychological functioning. As Boston University associate professor of psychological and brain sciences Donna Pincus told HuffPost, “a stress relief that people get from having some kind of an outlet and a way to express themselves.”

It’s all about creating something from scratch. As you’re mixing your ingredients, you’re predicting the final outcome and it’s really fulfilling when it’s finally done.

Another thing that boosts your mood is sharing what you made with the others. Sharing the food you made with people you care about helps you express emotions and it’s especially helpful if that’s what you usually struggle with. Baking something delicious is a great way to say someone that you appreciate and love them and now you have another reason to do it more often!
