Three Recipes To Make With Food Waste

As fun and necessary as it is, cooking can often leave you with a lot of waste. For most recipes, you only need to use one part of an ingredient, which means something else is bound to be thrown away. Instead, try these recipes, save yourself some money on materials and lessen your carbon footprint.

Chickpea Can Liquid

Chickpea can liquid, or aquafaba, is the star of these faux meringue cookies. This recipe is not only good for saving waste, it will also help out your vegan friends! Somehow this liquid can be treated as you would egg whites, so you only need to whip the liquid, add sugar, and bake!

Pasta Water

The last thing you want to do after making pasta is to strain it and let the water go down the kitchen strain. This salty and starchy water helps pull together all types of sauce while not diluting it like regular water would.

Wilting Vegetables

No one wants to eat a limp vegetable, but it is too much of a waste to throw it away. If you’re looking for something to do with those veggies on their last leg, make a stock! Just boil them with water, any herbs you have on hand and you have homemade stock in no time.
