One of the most popular fruits when summertime rolls around are tomatoes. These watery, juicy, and sweet vegetables are incredibly popular, and it’s easy to see why.

Originating in South America and being introduced to the rest of the world after the Spanish conquest of the Americas, this vegetable is now an integral part of the cuisines of many different places world wide.

While many people incorporate tomatoes into different dishes, they are actually delicious to eat alone.

Believe it or not, you can even eat a tomato in the same way as an apple! A more common way to enjoy the juiciness and pleasant sweetness of a tomato, however, it to slice them and to sprinkle them with olive oil and salt.

Are you more of a fan of tomato sauces? There are plenty of ways to use this delicious vegetable for a sauce too.

For example, if you love Mexican food, pico de gallo contains diced tomato and is a fantastic accompaniment for tortilla chips. You can also use them to make homemade ketchup or spaghetti sauces.

Finally, don’t be afraid to step out of the box with tomatoes! Little-known dishes that incorporate tomatoes such as shakshukah (a Middle Eastern tomato and egg dish) and fried green tomatoes (an American South classic) are other fantastic way to use tomatoes.

Take advantage of their summer ripeness and experiment with tomatoes!
