Gingerbread are a delightful winter treat and they are also pretty simple to make. You can’t get much more Christmassy than the smell of gingerbread baking! Here is a simple recipe for how to make them.
Ingredients
- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1/2 cup unsalted butter
- 1/2 cup brown sugar
- 1/2 cup molasses
- 1 large egg
- 1 teaspoon baking soda
- 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
- 1 teaspoons ground ginger
- 1 teaspoons ground cinnamon
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
Instructions
- In a large mixing bowl, combine your sugar with your butter (left at room temperature to soften) until the mixture becomes light and fluffy.
- Add your molasses, beating until well-combined. Then add your egg and beat until all mixed in.
- In a separate bowl, whisk your flour, baking soda, baking powder, ground ginger, ground cinnamon, and salt.
- Once they are well mixed and incorporated, add your dry ingredients to your wet mixture. Mix until a soft dough forms without overmixing.
- Wrap your dough in clingfilm and leave in the fridge for an hour. Once chilled, roll out onto a floured surface into your desired thickness and cut out shapes. Preheat your oven to a medium heat (around 350°F).
- Place your shapes onto a baking tray with baking paper and cook in the oven for about 8 minutes. Once they have cooked, allow them to chill for 10 minutes, before adding your own decorations and icing as you please.
