What to Stock Up on in Case of Self-Quarantine

It’s impossible to turn on the news or to scroll through social media without hearing about coronavirus. With the uncertainty surrounding it, people are being urged to self-quarantine and to create a household plan in case of an outbreak happening in their community. Stocking up your house with enough basic essentials to last you two weeks is important and here’s what you should get the next time you head to the grocery store.

Canned Goods

Canned goods are usually the first food item to fly off shelves as they can last up to a decade as long as they’re stored in moderate temperatures. Canned fruits and vegetables will provide you with the nutrients you need to stay healthy. Beans, ravioli, fish, soups, and chillis are also items you should stock up on.

Pantry Staples

Keep your pantry full with nuts, pastas, nut butters, applesauce, quinoa, dried fruits, and seeds. Also, don’t forget to get food for your baby or pets.

Frozen Foods

Frozen fruits and vegetables give you the same vitamins and minerals found in fresh ones, but they don’t last as long as canned ones. Make sure you stock up on ready-made meals like burritos and pizzas because they’re easy to prepare and they don’t require fresh ingredients. Meats and poultry are also items you should get as they can be used for many different meals.

Breakfast Food & Snacks

Breakfast foods like oatmeal and cereal can be eaten for any meal and they keep for a while. Also, remember to get some snack foods like granola bars and protein bars, which will come in handy if you plan on working out at home. Popcorn is another great thing to get as you’ll finally have time to relax while catching up on your favorite television show.
