Why You Should Eat More Alkaline Foods

A lot of talk has been going around recently about an alkaline diet that is said to help you become healthier and prevent you from getting certain diseases and illnesses.

While that’s not medically backed, there is a lot of research about eating a diet that contains many alkaline-heavy foods. Alkaline foods are anything that registers over a 7 on the pH scale, where anything under a 7 is acidic. Since our diets in the western world are usually more acidic than alkaline, it really can benefit your health.

People think that simply eating more vegetables and fruit is enough, which is great, but if you want to get into the pH level of some common produce, you’ll see that many fan-favorites are very acidic. Anything from berries to tomatoes are pretty acidic, and while good in moderation, over time it can be hard on your digestion and your kidneys. Also, many processed foods including meat and cheese are acidic, which definitely can take a toll on your health.

To balance out these healthy but acidic foods, add more alkaline foods to your diet to keep everything even. Some of the best alkaline-rich foods include things like spinach and other leafy greens, celery, bell peppers, avocado, and more. So vary your diet and try to add some more alkaline foods on your plate.
