If you’re a fan of soft pretzels, this recipe is right up your alley!
Ingredients
- 1 1/2 cups of warm water
- 2 1/4 teaspoons of instant yeast
- 1 teaspoon of salt
- 1 tablespoon of brown sugar
- 1 tablespoon of melted unsalted butter
- 3 3/4 cups of all-purpose flour plus more for dusting
- Coarse sea salt
- 1/2 cup of baking soda
- 9 cups of water
Recipe
- Whisk together water and yeast in a large bowl and let it sit for 2 minutes. Add sugar, salt, and butter and whisk to combine.
- Add flour 1 cup at a time and switch to mixing with a wooden spoon.
- Add the rest of the flour or more if you need until the dough isn’t sticky and it springs back when you touch it.
- Dust a surface with flour, knead for 3 minutes, shape into a ball, and cover it with a towel for 10 minutes.
- Cut up the dough into 12 pieces and roll each out into a 20-inch rope.
- Place the dough in front of you so the two ends face you. Cross them over to make a circle at the top, then cross them over again and fold them onto the circle to make the shape.
- Boil the water and baking soda, put each pretzel in for 15-20 seconds, then take them out and put them onto parchment lined baking sheets.
- Sprinkle with salt, and bake for 12-15 minutes at 400 F or until golden.
