If you’re a fan of soft pretzels, this recipe is right up your alley!

Ingredients

  • 1 1/2 cups of warm water
  • 2 1/4 teaspoons of instant yeast
  • 1 teaspoon of salt
  • 1 tablespoon of brown sugar
  • 1 tablespoon of melted unsalted butter
  • 3 3/4 cups of all-purpose flour plus more for dusting
  • Coarse sea salt
  • 1/2 cup of baking soda
  • 9 cups of water

Recipe

  1. Whisk together water and yeast in a large bowl and let it sit for 2 minutes. Add sugar, salt, and butter and whisk to combine.
  2. Add flour 1 cup at a time and switch to mixing with a wooden spoon.
  3. Add the rest of the flour or more if you need until the dough isn’t sticky and it springs back when you touch it.
  4. Dust a surface with flour, knead for 3 minutes, shape into a ball, and cover it with a towel for 10 minutes.
  5. Cut up the dough into 12 pieces and roll each out into a 20-inch rope.
  6. Place the dough in front of you so the two ends face you. Cross them over to make a circle at the top, then cross them over again and fold them onto the circle to make the shape.
  7. Boil the water and baking soda, put each pretzel in for 15-20 seconds, then take them out and put them onto parchment lined baking sheets.
  8. Sprinkle with salt, and bake for 12-15 minutes at 400 F or until golden.
