Who decided that we must refrigerate most foods in order to keep it good and fresh? This isn’t the case for all of them. There are some items that you should keep at room temperature. Here is a list of ingredients you should never refrigerate.
- Onions
They need air circulation, that cannot be found in the refrigerator. - Potatoes
Refrigeration affects their flavor. - Tomatoes
Remove them from their plastic bag and leave them at room temperature. Refrigeration can make them mushy and ripe very fast (if that’s what you want, put them in the fridge) - Bread
Refrigeration dries the bread out very fast. Instead, keep a bit at room temperature and freeze the other part. - Winter Squash
Will last for about a month or two outside the fridge, at room temperature. - Garlic
Can stay good up to 2 months with air circulation. - Hot Sauce
Can easily stay in the kitchen cabinet for up to 3 years. - Nail Polish
Keeping it in the fridge can cause it to thicken. Keep it at room temperature, away from sunlight. - Batteries
Should be in a drawer at room temperature. The extreme cold or the heat could ruin them. - Coffee
Will affect the flavor of the coffee beans.
