Sushi has transformed into a beloved global cuisine. Initially a method of preserving fish in fermented rice, sushi has evolved into an art form. If you’ve dreamed of making sushi at home, here are three delicious sushi types to consider.

Maki (Rolled Sushi)

Maki is probably what you visualize when you think of sushi. For this version, rice and fillings are rolled inside nori (seaweed) sheets and then sliced into pieces. It was one of the first types of sushi to gain popularity outside Japan. So if you’re going for a classic version, rolled sushi is your go-to.

Nigiri (Hand-Pressed Sushi)

Nigiri consists of an oblong mound of vinegared rice topped with a slice of raw fish or seafood. The word ‘nigiri’ comes from the Japanese word ‘nigirizushi,’ which means “hand-pressed sushi.” It was a fast-food option for workers on the go during the bustling Edo period. It’s also a bit faster to make at home.

Temaki (Hand Roll)

Temaki, or hand-rolled sushi, is special for its communal and interactive nature. It’s often made and eaten with hands, making it a more personal and casual sushi experience. You can set out various ingredients, and everyone can create their unique hand roll, saving you some work in the kitchen.
