We’re over a quarter of the way into 2019, and by now we have a pretty good idea of which food trends are going strong and which were just brief fads.

Here are five food trends of 2019 that are continuing to grow and are having a positive impact on our lives and the environment.

Environmentally Friendly Packaging

By now, most people are well aware of the impact that plastics and other food packaging has on the environment. This year, there has been a real push for companies to use recyclable packing, and the trend is continuing to grow.

Alcohol Free

For the first time, it seems like Dry January was actually a success for many of us. More and more people are going more-or-less alcohol free which means there has already been a rise in yummy mocktails and alcohol free beers. Yay.

Meat Free

Yup. More and more people are daring to go veggie or vegan. The numbers in the US and the UK are continuously on the rise which means more and more meat free products are being stocked and brought.

Carb Replacements

Another trend that continues to grow is people replacing their carbs for veg. This doesn’t mean swapping a pizza for a salad, but rather getting a pizza that has the benefits of the salad and less of the carbs. Sounds too good to be true? It’s not. There are actually lots of hidden vegetable products hitting shelves and restaurants in 2019.

Misshapen Veg

Lastly, misshapen veg is becoming trendy. Instead of throwing away ugly carrots and funny looking potatoes, supermarkets are encouraging shoppers to use the products for tasty recipes like hummus or crisps. For these products, it doesn’t matter what shape the veg was in, because it will be cut up and blended anyway.
