Lasagna is one of the most popular family dinners, and for good reason. Satisfying, tasty and healthy, this pasta dish has a lot to offer. However, layering all of those ingredients isn’t always easy. If you’re lasagna is turning out too dry, too sloppy, or just not quite right, read these tips on avoiding common mistakes.

Measure The Liquids

Make sure you’re following a tried and tested recipe. All too often, elements such as the béchamel sauce are estimated, which means you can end up with far too much – or too little – liquid in the lasagna. Too much means the layers can slip around and lose their definition, whilst too little will result in a dry and disappointing lasagna.

Cook The Meat With Care

Overcooking the meat can result in a dry and tough texture, but equally you don’t want to run the risk of undercooked meat. Keep the meat moving in the pan and ensure it has enough oil to cook in. As soon as the pinkness has gone, you can stop pan cooking it, as it will continue to cook within the lasagna.

Toppings

The lasagna will get baked at a high heat, so a thin scattering of cheese is likely to burn. Add the cheese half way through the cooking time to avoid burning, or combine cheddar with a moister cheese like mozzarella to avoid burning.
