Homemade Pie Dough is Easier than You Think!

People think that making pie dough is hard, but all you need are two forks, cold butter, and 10-15 minutes!

Ingredients

  • 1 1/2 cups of all purpose flour
  • 2 tablespoons of sugar
  • 1/2 teaspoon of fine salt
  • 8 tablespoons of unsalted butter
  • 1/4 cup of ice water

Instructions

  1. Start by cubing the butter and putting it into the freezer so it gets really cold and hard.
  2. In a bowl, add the flour, sugar, and salt, and mix well.
  3. Once the butter is pretty solid, add it into the bowl and using two forks, mix it into the dry ingredients. This will take about 5-7 minutes and the butter should end pea-sized.
  4. Then, add in 2-3 tablespoons of the water and super gently mix it into the flour.
  5. To test the flour to see if it’s done, squeeze a little bit between your fingers to see if it sticks together. If it doesn’t, add 1 tablespoon of water at a time until it does.
  6. On a lightly floured surface, turn the dough out and knead it gently until it forms a unified clump. It will still be a little crumbly, and that’s okay.
  7. Form it until a disk and wrap it in cling wrap, stick it in the freezer for an hour, and you’re ready to make a pie or save it for another day!
