How to Make Brown Sugar at Home

Before baking, it is better to have all your ingredients at hand. This is because it can be frustrating to start mixing before discovering that some ingredients are missing. You may have to run to the store, and this may ruin the mixture. If you’re missing an ingredient like brown sugar, you can make it with items in your pantry.

Sometimes, it may even be better to make your own brown sugar because it adds more sweetness to your cookies or other baked foods. The molasses found in the sugar adds chewiness and moisture to the end product.

You need only two ingredients – molasses and granulated sugar – to make this at home. Start by getting your mixer fitted with its whisk attachment. Mix a cup of sugar and a tablespoon of molasses until they are well blended. It will produce a cup of brown sugar. The produce may be lighter than usual but if you need a darker product, then use a cup of sugar and 2 tablespoons molasses.

If you do not have a mixer at your disposal, you can make it work without it. Mix the molasses and sugar by hand. However, this will require a lot of work to ensure that it is properly blended. Use a fork to stir the molasses into the sugar as it eases the process until it incorporates fully.
