How do you start your morning? Do you enjoy a bowl of cereal to fuel your day?

Did you know that cereals were invented as an unappetizing and difficult to digest health food?

Invented in the 19th century, cereals were made of nuggets of bran and was there to regulate a heavy meat diet, as most of the Americans were eating beef and pork at this time.

Dr. John Kellog showed interest in health food for his patients. He created granola, and together with his brothers, created many other meatless breakfast foods. This is how they came across the method that let wheat flake instead of being a nugget and corn flakes were born!

But only in 1939, cereals took on all the sweetness that we are familiar today. The first sweet creation was called Joe Popped Wheat Honnie and was marketed towards children, just as all the marketing tactics of today on TV or any other ads.
