Barbecue sauce should be an essential item in every kitchen. This versatile sauce works well with almost any food and can make even the most boring meals taste good.

But even if you regularly restock your BBQ sauce supplies, there will probably be times when you will run out of it just when you’re getting ready to marinate some meat or cook a barbecue sauce-friendly dish. When this happens, you don’t have to run to the grocery store. Instead, make some BBQ sauce yourself. It’s simpler than you might guess.

Ingredients

  • ½ cup ketchup
  • 2 tablespoon apple cider vinegar
  • 2 tablespoons muscovado sugar (regular brown sugar will also do)
  • 2 teaspoons molasses (you can use maple syrup or honey as a substitute)
  • 1 tablespoon Worchestershire sauce
  • 1 teaspoon onion powder
  • ½ teaspoon mustard
  • ¼ teaspoon garlic powder
  • ½ teaspoon smoked paprika (optional)
  • ½ teaspoon chili powder (optional)

Instructions

1. Mix all the ingredients in a smaller pot.

2. Turn on the stove on medium heat.

3. Place the pot on the stove and cook for around 10 minutes. Stir occasionally.

4. Remove the pot from the stove and let the sauce cool down.

5. Use the homemade BBQ immediately or store it in the fridge.
