If you love mayonnaise but are a vegan or just fancy some vegan mayo, it’s easier to make than you might think! It’s also super tasty and adjustable to flavor how you like it. Here’s a recipe for vegan mayo.

Ingredients

  • 1 cup of oat milk or soya milk
  • 1 cup neutral-flavored oil (such as sunflower or canola oil)
  • 1 tablespoon apple cider vinegar
  • 1 tablespoon Dijon mustard
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon of maple syrup (optional)

Instructions

  1. In a blender or food processor, combine the oat milk, apple cider vinegar, Dijon mustard, and salt. Blend until well combined.
  2. With the blender or food processor running, slowly drizzle in the neutral-flavored oil. Gradually adding the oil is key for achieving a thick and creamy consistency.
  3. Continue blending until the mixture emulsifies and thickens, resembling the texture of traditional mayonnaise.
  4. Taste it and adjust the salt and acidity to your liking. If you like a touch of sweetness, add maple syrup and blend again. Transfer your mayonnaise to a jar or airtight container. Refrigerate for at least 30 minutes to allow the flavors to meld and the mayonnaise to set.
  5. Stir before using and enjoy this plant-based condiment in sandwiches, salads, or as a dip. You can experiment with flavor variations by adding minced garlic, herbs, or spices according to your taste preferences. Your homemade vegan mayonnaise is now ready to add to all of your favorite vegan meals.
