Chocolate with coffee flavor is nothing new, as well as coffee with chocolate flavor. But what about chocolate made out of coffee beans? That is something you don’t see very often. Reddit user @Fluffy_Munchkin recently managed to successfully turn coffee beans into a chocolate treat and decided to share the story with the rest of the internet.

How it Started

Everything started when this Redditor purchased a melanger device, also known as a wet grinder, with the intention to make coffee praline paste with it. But soon, he came up with a better idea. He would try to turn coffee beans into chocolate.

@Fluffy_Munchkin did some research and found out that there are several recipes for this. However, neither was to their liking as it would result in a bitter or bad-tasting chocolate. So, this person created their own.

The Recipe

After several tries and misses, the Reddit user finally managed to develop a recipe that led to a satisfying product. The recipe asks for coffee beans, cocoa butter, sugar, powdered vanilla beans, salt, and liquid soy lecithin.

The instructions involve grinding the coffee beans as fine as possible and melting the cocoa butter completely. The melted cocoa butter is then mixed with soy lecithin and poured into a melanger. The ground coffee beans and the rest of the ingredients are then added to the melanger and left to conch for 48 hours.

The mixture is then tempered, poured into molds, and left in the fridge to cool down. After 30 minutes, it becomes every coffee lover’s dream.

@Fluffy_Munchkin even made a video in which he explains the process and provides a tutorial for anyone who wants to try and make this treat at home. Check it out below.

How Does it Taste?

According to the Reddit user, the chocolate made out of coffee beans comes with a “good balance between sweetness and bitterness”. It has a “strong coffee flavor” and melts in your mouth just like real chocolate. People who had a chance to sample it gave positive reviews with @Fluffy_Munchkin’s roommate described the taste as “super nutty espresso”.
