Everyone knows that when you cut an apple into slices, you have to eat them quickly. Otherwise, they will turn brown and won’t be nearly as appetizing. This can be quite annoying if you like to have apple slices for your picnic or simply like to prepare everything for desserts ahead of time.

The reason why apple slices turn brown is that the oxygen from the air reacts with the apple meat and oxidizes it. Luckily, there are a few hacks that can help you prevent this process and keep your apple slices from browning as a result.

Soak Apple Slices in Water

The easiest way to prevent apple slices from browning is to soak them in your regular tap water. You can place them in any container or a bowl and just fill it up with water until the slices are submerged. The water will prevent the air from reaching the apple meat, and oxidation won’t take place.

Make a Honey Water Bath

If you want even better results than plain water, make a honey water bath for your apple slices. Combine a couple of tablespoons of honey in a cup of water and mix well. Cover the apple slices with the mixture and leave them submerged for several minutes. After that, you can rinse them under running water or just leave them as they are for sweeter apple slices.

Sprinkle Them with Lemon Juice

Lemon juice does wonders in stopping the apple slices from browning. Simply get your apple slices in a bowl, squeeze half a lemon on them, and toss them a bit. You can then enjoy apple slices with a citric kick or wash them under cool water to prevent the lemon juice from affecting the taste too much.
