Quinoa is a seed native to South America but is now one of the most popular grain substitutes around the world. High in fiber and protein, quinoa is a great alternative for gluten-free people or people who simply want to cut back on carbs. Here are three ways to use quinoa throughout your day.

Breakfast

Instead of using rolled oats or cereal, try making breakfast quinoa. Treat it as though it was oatmeal and add spices like cinnamon or cloves to it to really bring it to life. Combine it with fruits, nuts, or seeds, and you have a balanced way to stay your day.

Quinoa Salad

Quinoa makes a great base for a salad because it has protein and will help keep you full throughout the day. Make some quinoa and then toss it together with lettuce, and whatever other vegetables you have on hand. You can stick with basics like tomatoes and cucumbers, or give it an Asian twist by adding bean sprouts, cabbage, and sesame seeds. Pour over soy sauce and you have a delicious lunch!

To finish the day, make these vegetarian burgers! Combine cooked quinoa with black beans, onions, breadcrumbs, eggs, and peppers. Bake or sautee in patty shapes and you’re ready to enjoy.
