Smoothies are a great way to get your daily dose of nutrients. Since they usually combine healthy ingredients like fruits, nut butters, and milk, it’s easy to blend something up that packs a nutritional punch. One great way to get even more essential vitamins into your smoothie is to add vegetables; however, since vegetables usually aren’t sweet they can be harder to use in a way that tastes good. Here are some of the best and how to use them.

Leafy Greens

Leafy greens like spinach and kale contain tons of nutrients such as vitamin A, calcium, and riboflavin. While they don’t taste great blended by themselves, their taste is easy to mask with some fruits and fruit juice like apple, orange, or pineapple. They taste especially good with some matcha powder and mint as well.

Beets

Beets are a great option for smoothies because they are naturally sweet. Their earthy aftertaste, too, isn’t necessarily a detriment to your smoothie’s taste, and their beautiful pink hue is so pretty you’ll want to drink the smoothie just from looking at it. Other red fruits like berries are a great thing to combine with beets to preserve their pink color.

Avocados

Since avocados don’t have an overpowering taste and are super rich and creamy, they’re a perfect ingredient if you like to drink smoothies for a whole meal. They’ll fill you up thanks to their healthy fats and even pair well with more interesting ingredients like cacao or nuts in addition to fruit.
