These Scones Are Properly Delicious

Scones are the quintessential British baked good; it’s perfect in the morning with coffee or served in the late afternoon with tea. They are somewhere in between a cake and a southern biscuit, and so delicious with jams and clotted cream. If you want to bring out your proper side and make them at home, it really couldn’t be easier. Follow this recipe and you’ll be raising your pinky with each sip of tea.

Ingredients

For this recipe, you actually only need a few ingredients. For the scone itself, you will need self-raising flour, butter, sugar, milk and a pinch of salt. If you want to make an egg wash for it, you will also need an egg.

Method

  1. Mix together in a large bowl the flour and salt.
  2. Put in the butter and rub it into the flour with your fingers.
  3. Then, stir in the sugar and milk until the dough comes together but is still soft.
  4. Put the dough on a floured surface and lightly knead.
  5. Make the dough into a rectangle about 3/4 cm thick and cut out the scones with a glass or cookie cutter.
  6. Put the scones on a greased baking sheet and brush on an egg wash if you’d like.
  7. Bake and enjoy!
