Quite a lot of people discard their cheese rind before digging into the cheese of their liking. And this is really a shame since many kinds of cheese come with a rind that can be proved very useful. The only ones that you should. Here is why you should think twice before discarding cheese rind.

Cooking With Cheese Rind

Cheese rind can be used in cooking. Parmesan, Pecorino Romano, and other hard cheeses come with a rind that’s great for soups or stocks. Just take some rind and toss it in with the rest of the ingredients. You’ll be surprised how much more flavor your soups and broths will have.

Turning Them Into Snack

You can also turn the cheese rind into a snack. Simply place them on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper and toss them in an oven for five minutes. You’ll get tasty little bites that are perfect for movie nights or as a party snack.

Eating Cheese Rind

Most of the time, you can simply eat cheese rind. To infuse more flavors into the cheese or to help it mature, cheese makers often wash the rind with brine or other liquids. This results in quite an enjoyable rind that is surprisingly delicious. Note that this doesn’t apply to waxed-rind cheeses like Gouda.
