Cheese sauce is a great dish to make yourself, as it’s really easy but is so much better than any shop-bought version. This recipe uses very simple ingredients but has very tasty results. You can easily multiply the ingredients to make a larger amount, or add any extra flavorings you might like. Here are two ideas for using this delicious sauce as well.
Ingredients:
(Serves 2)
- 1 tablespoon oil
- 1 tablespoon plain flour
- 1 cup milk
- ½ teaspoon smoked paprika
- ½ teaspoon mustard
- Salt and pepper, to taste
- ½ cup shredded cheese
Instructions:
- Heat the oil in a pan and then add the flour.
- Stir well to form a smooth paste.
- Gradually add the milk a small amount at a time, stirring well each time to combine it.
- Once all the milk is in, add the paprika, mustard, salt, and pepper.
- Increase the heat.
- Simmer gently stirring constantly for 5 minutes.
- Add the cheese and heat for another 5 minutes, until the sauce has thickened.
- Remove from the heat ready to be used in your meal.
Cauliflower Cheese
Boil or steam some cauliflower. Place in an oven-proof dish and then pour the cheese sauce over and stir through. Place in the oven for 20-30 minutes.
Lasagne
Layer the cheese sauce between pasta sheets and bolognese sauce and bake in the oven for 30-40 minutes.
