Mac and cheese is one of the greatest comfort food dishes out there. It is great on a cold, dark winter’s night to warm you up. Here is a recipe for a mac and cheese dish that will be extra tasty.

  • 1 pound of macaroni
  • 1 cup of unsalted butter
  • 1/2 cup of all-purpose flour
  • 4 cups of whole milk
  • 2 cups of sharp cheddar cheese, shredded
  • 1 cup of mozzarella cheese, shredded
  • 1 cup of Parmesan cheese, grated
  • 1/2 teaspoon of dry mustard powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon of cayenne pepper
  • 1 cup of Panko breadcrumbs
  • Salt
  • Black pepper

  1. Cook your macaroni until al dente. In a large saucepan melt a 1/2 cup of butter, and stir in your flour to make a roux. Cook for about 2 minutes until it becomes golden brown.
  2. Gradually whisk in your milk, cook, and whisk until it thickens. Reduce to a low heat and stir in your cheese (leave a 1/2 cup of parmesan for topping). Continue stirring until the cheese is melted and your sauce is smooth.
  3. Add your mustard powder, cayenne pepper, salt, and black pepper. Adjust according to taste. Mix in your pasta into the cheese sauce.
  4. In a small bowl, mix in your breadcrumbs with your parmesan and some melted butter. Transfer your cheese sauce and pasta into a baking dish and put your breadcrumb mixture on top. Bake for about 3-4 minutes until the top is golden. Serve hot and garnish with fresh parsley if you like.
