Mac and cheese is one of the greatest comfort food dishes out there. It is great on a cold, dark winter’s night to warm you up. Here is a recipe for a mac and cheese dish that will be extra tasty.
Ingredients:
- 1 pound of macaroni
- 1 cup of unsalted butter
- 1/2 cup of all-purpose flour
- 4 cups of whole milk
- 2 cups of sharp cheddar cheese, shredded
- 1 cup of mozzarella cheese, shredded
- 1 cup of Parmesan cheese, grated
- 1/2 teaspoon of dry mustard powder
- 1/4 teaspoon of cayenne pepper
- 1 cup of Panko breadcrumbs
- Salt
- Black pepper

- Cook your macaroni until al dente. In a large saucepan melt a 1/2 cup of butter, and stir in your flour to make a roux. Cook for about 2 minutes until it becomes golden brown.
- Gradually whisk in your milk, cook, and whisk until it thickens. Reduce to a low heat and stir in your cheese (leave a 1/2 cup of parmesan for topping). Continue stirring until the cheese is melted and your sauce is smooth.
- Add your mustard powder, cayenne pepper, salt, and black pepper. Adjust according to taste. Mix in your pasta into the cheese sauce.
- In a small bowl, mix in your breadcrumbs with your parmesan and some melted butter. Transfer your cheese sauce and pasta into a baking dish and put your breadcrumb mixture on top. Bake for about 3-4 minutes until the top is golden. Serve hot and garnish with fresh parsley if you like.
