Have you ever heard about Watergate salad? No worries, a lot of people didn’t. But this Southern dessert is making a big comeback thanks to TikTok.
The Watergate salad got it’s five minutes of fame thanks to a viral video by TikToker Kelly McDuff. In a clip posted on her social media earlier in November, McDuff did a tour of an office potluck and introduced the dishes she brought: Watergate salad and cheesy potatoes casserole.
Besides all the fine food on display, a lot of TikTok users were curious about Watergate salad, as it was the first time they heard about it. This intrigue was part of the reason why the video was watched more than 17 million times.
Looking to satisfy the curiosity of her followers, McDuff decided to upload a follow-up video in which she shared the recipe for the Watergate salad. It turns out it is quite an easy and quick way to get a tasty treat.
According to McDuff, all you need to do is combine pistachio JELL-O with marshmallows, crushed pineapples (juice included), and finely chopped pecans in a bowl. After mixing the ingredients, you add a pack of Cool Whip, do some more mixing, and then store the salad in the freezer for a while.
We don’t know about you, but we will definitely try it out to see what’s all the fuss about.
