We’re All Screaming for this Color-Changing Ice Cream

July 21st was National Ice Cream Day. But don’t worry if you missed it, we believe ice cream should be celebrated every day of the year.

We don’t need a special day to appreciate the superbness of sorbet, the glory of gelato, and the excellence of ice cream.

One of the coolest novelties we’ve ever heard of is color-transforming ice cream.

Invented by a Spanish scientist with a Masters in Creating Artisan Ice Cream (true story), Xamaleón changes hue when licked.

Manuel Linares says pure chemistry is behind the unique trick as “any food can change color depending on temperature and oxidation.”

The ice cream with the tutti-frutti taste is blue in the tub, but is then sprayed with what Linares calls “a love elixir,” making it pink and then eventually purple as it is licked.

Sounds like the real-life Willy Wonka has been found!
