Why Do We Love Junk Food so Much?

Junk food is addictive for a reason. It’s simply made to be addictive and to not satisfy your cravings, but to make them bigger. Whether your favorite snack is a bag of chips, a Snickers bar, or a fast-food chain burger, it’s hard to escape the mighty claws of junk food manufacturers. You probably know the feeling of excitement you have when you’re about to bite into your favorite junk food and the immediate pleasure you feel after it. But the pleasure goes away in a matter of seconds and you need to have another bite, and then another.

Junk food tastes amazing because it’s engineered to taste amazing. It’s usually cheap and easily available, but there’s a big problem with it: as its name says, its junk. It doesn’t contain any nutrients your body needs, but mostly consists of calorie-dense sugar and fat that your body just stores while virtually staying hungry for real food. Typical junk foods are candy, salty snacks, baked goods, and soft drinks.
