A lot of parents are afraid of letting a child cook alongside them. In the Western world, it’s normal for most families to leave the cooking to the adults, but in many countries and cultures it’s not only normal for children to cook, but it’s expected. If you’re skeptical of letting your child cook with you, you might want to reconsider it.

Independence

Teaching a child to cook will allow them to have the independence they need to thrive in the world. They have to learn at some point that you cannot take care of them forever, and if they learn at a young age that they can feed themselves, they will be much more prepared for when they get older.

When you’re in the kitchen, there’s a lot going on at the same time. Teaching kids how to cook and to clean up after themselves will teach them more responsibility than almost any other chore. Although it will be hard and messy for you at the beginning, as they get older it will become more routine, and you will get to worry less.
