You Can Now Buy a 72-Pound Parmigiano-Reggiano Wheel at Costco for a Baffling Price

Many people are used to going to Costco for cheap bulk packages of everyday supplies, but that’s about to change. If you have $900 to spare, you can now buy a huge, 72-pound wheel of Parmigiano-Reggiano cheese at this chain.

The wheel is the size of an average tire and definitely doesn’t look like an outlet store commodity. Despite the steep price, it’s actually a great deal. For $12.50 per pound, you can get cheese made from fresh milk from Italian provinces of Parma and Reggio Emilio after it aged for at least two years. The quality is approved by the Consortium Parmigiano Reggiano before the cheese can be exported from Italy. Just shipping takes two to three days. But what can you do with so much cheese?

“Bought this as a surprise for my son’s wedding reception (he is a fiend for the stuff),” a buyer wrote in a review. “Afterwards, guests were pleased to take home a wedge as a party favor of sorts.” Another buyer bought it so their family would have “a flaming wheel of cheese for Christmas Eve dinner.” With a group of cheese-loving friends or family around you, nothing can stop you from getting your own wheel if you want.
