Buying food in bulk is a pretty common money-saving method, but it doesn’t work every time. Some types of food go bad pretty quickly so it’s smarter to buy them in reasonable amounts, and these five fall under that category.

Coffee

If you drink coffee several times a day, you’ll be tempted to buy a huge package, but this is a big no-no. Your coffee won’t taste that good after some time, and there’s no point in drinking it if it doesn’t.

Spices and Herbs

Just like coffee, spices and herbs tend to lose their flavor as time goes by, and you’ll end up throwing most of them away if you buy them in bulk.

Flour

Unless you’re baking on a daily basis, buying a super-sized bag of flour is a huge waste of money because flour tends to suck up moisture if you keep it around for too long.

Cooking Oils

In addition to being a waste of money, buying cooking oil in bulk is a potential health hazard because it doesn’t take them long to go rancid and oxidize.

Nuts and Seeds

Nuts and seeds shouldn’t be bought in bulk for the same reason as cooking oils. They’re rich in natural oils, but you can try keeping them fresh by storing them in a cool, dark place.
