Teen chef Flynn McGarry might only be 19 years old, but he’s made a name for himself in the Big Apple, which is a hard, if not impossible, feat. As far as experience goes, he’s been cooking in his mom’s kitchen for curious foodies for the past eight years, and has also hosted pop-up tasting dinners in eateries across the United States for some time.
Having recently helmed the kitchen at NYC’s Kava Cafe, McGarry is now branching out on his own with his new restaurant, Gem, in NYC’s trendy Lower East Side neighborhood, in the space where the now defunct Cafe Henrie operated. The space will boast two areas: the “living room,” which will follow a cafe concept, plus the “dining room” which will serve a prix-fixe curated menu at $155 per person.
Both areas will be in operation once Gem opens in February. If you want to check out the teen culinary wunderkind in action, we suggest booking a table well in advance, as we’re sure it’ll be packed with curious foodies for months to come.
