Here’s How to Make Oat Milk at Home

If you’ve been wondering why everyone’s talking about oat milk lately, there’s a good reason for it. Oat milk is great for you and delicious at the same time – some say it’s most similar to cow milk compared to any other non-dairy option out there. And despite all this, it’s still not easy to buy it wherever you want. The good news is that you don’t have to chase it around the city; you can easily make it at home!

Ingredients

Making your own oat milk is easier than you think. You can easily get the ingredients and the only tools you’ll need are a blender and a draining cloth. You’ll need:

  • 1 cup organic oats
  • 3 cups purified water plus extra water for soaking
  • a pinch of sea salt
  • optionally, add 1-2 dates, a tsp of honey, or a vanilla/cinnamon extract

Instructions

Soak the oats in purified water and leave them for at least 30 minutes, but not longer than 12 hours. This will soften the oats and help remove the phytic acid.

Drain and rinse the oats well and discard the water. Put them into the blender, add purified water (3 cups), salt, and the optional spices. Blend for a minute or two.

Strain in a jar and keep refrigerated for 3-5 days. Shake before each use.
