Citrus is one of the most important cooking elements you can have in your kitchen. There are so many types of citrus to use, and they’re all really affordable so you can go crazy with the citruses!

Zest

Zest is everything when it comes to cooking. It adds the flavor of the citrus without adding any extra liquid, and the flavor of the zest is quite strong as well. Add it to any dish for beautiful citrus flavorful, the only thing is that you can’t do it in advance or it will dry out and not be very nice to eat.

Heat

Although acid is essential to many sauces, soups, and more, but you can’t add it to early on or it will start to taste a little funky. Instead, add it once the heat is turned off and right before serving. This will brighten up any dish you’ve made without compromising the dish.

Dairy

Dairy and acid don’t generally go together, because it can curdle very easily when too much is added. This is why you have to be really careful when you’re mixing them, so go easy on the juice and heavier on the zest for that same brightness.
