What it Means to Be a Bold Chef

Being a chef often requires no small dose of diligence. It requires endless note-taking, along with years of research to find out what people like to eat. A chef needs to seek out feedback on their dishes and see which of their dishes are resonating with their audiences. However, there’s a lot more to it than just that. The other side of this coin is a little something called being bold, and here’s why a chef cannot cook without it.

Having a Bold Vision

There’s a popular saying that “plans are worthless, but planning is everything”. In many ways, this illustrates our point regarding seeking feedback while still being bold. A chef must seek feedback in order to learn which of their dishes people like. This is where plans are proven to be worthless because sometimes we learn that what we thought was good actually wasn’t.

However, then there’s the other part of that saying, that “planning is everything”. Without that part, a chef cannot thrive. A chef needs to be bold in order for the dish to actually get made. A chef needs to actually plan out a vision in order to get feedback later.

Some artists (or chefs) spend way too much time asking consumers what they want, poring over data spreadsheets and believing they can analyze their way through the perfect masterpiece. There’s a time and place for data, but it’s not when the actual art is created. That’s where boldness comes into play, and every good chef needs it.
