Gravy is one of the biggest staples in the south. This sauce is super versatile and simply makes everything taste juicier and more delicious.
This gravy is perfect for any occasions, whether it’s poured over cauliflower steaks for dinner or mashed potatoes on the side. You can also use it with grits or just to make any vegetable taste more delicious and hearty.
Ingredients
For this gravy, you will need 1/2 cup of any neutral oil, one chopped onion, 5 cloves of garlic minced, 1/2 cup of all-purpose flour, 4 teaspoons of nutritional yeast, 4 tablespoons of light soy sauce, 2 cups of veggie broth, 1/2 teaspoon of salt and dried sage.
Method
- Fry the onions and garlic together in the oil over medium heat until translucent, about 5 minutes.
- Stir in the flour, nutritional yeast, and soy sauce into the pan. The mixture should resemble a smooth paste.
- Then, whisk in the 2 cups of broth to break up the paste but create a smooth sauce.
- Season with the salt and sage and a few cracks of black pepper.
- Bring the mixture to a boil, reduce to a simmer and stick constantly until it’s nice and thick about 10 minutes.
- Take off the heat and enjoy!
