You Can (and Should) Put This Vegan Gravy On Everything

Gravy is one of the biggest staples in the south. This sauce is super versatile and simply makes everything taste juicier and more delicious.

This gravy is perfect for any occasions, whether it’s poured over cauliflower steaks for dinner or mashed potatoes on the side. You can also use it with grits or just to make any vegetable taste more delicious and hearty.

Ingredients

For this gravy, you will need 1/2 cup of any neutral oil, one chopped onion, 5 cloves of garlic minced, 1/2 cup of all-purpose flour, 4 teaspoons of nutritional yeast, 4 tablespoons of light soy sauce, 2 cups of veggie broth, 1/2 teaspoon of salt and dried sage.

Method

  1. Fry the onions and garlic together in the oil over medium heat until translucent, about 5 minutes.
  2. Stir in the flour, nutritional yeast, and soy sauce into the pan. The mixture should resemble a smooth paste.
  3. Then, whisk in the 2 cups of broth to break up the paste but create a smooth sauce.
  4. Season with the salt and sage and a few cracks of black pepper.
  5. Bring the mixture to a boil, reduce to a simmer and stick constantly until it’s nice and thick about 10 minutes.
  6. Take off the heat and enjoy!

Saturday Breakfast☀️ This morning I tried veganizing Brady’s all time favorite breakfast: potato hash with country gravy. The potatoes were pretty simple, just red potatoes, onions and mushrooms cooked in a cast iron skillet so they got the nice crunchy bits that bring so much flavor. The country gravy was made using store-bought vegan breakfast patties. Then I just made the gravy like I did before I was vegan: crumble the sausage, coat it in flour and then slowly add in the almond milk and let cook on low until it was creamy and thick. Since the sausage didn’t have the exact right flavor I was looking for, I added in some fennel seed, garlic, red chili flakes and lots of pepper. I served it with some buttery sourdough toast😋 For a first try this was a pretty good breakfast, but I’ll definitely be making this again until I get that gravy down juuuuust right😍 Do you have a favorite weekend breakfast? ☀️☀️☀️☀️☀️☀️☀️☀️☀️☀️☀️☀️☀️☀️☀️☀️ • • • • • #saturdaymorning #saturdaybreakfast #weekendbreakfast #veganized #vegangravy #countrygravy #meatlesssausage #meatfree #dairyfree #meatlesseveryday #sourdoughbread #veganbutter #almondmilk #countrypotatoes #potatohash #eggfree #veganfeed #veganbreakfast #happyhusband #vegancooking #anythingyoucaneaticaneatvegan #veganfoodie #veganfoodlover #veganfoodblog #veganblogger #veganbowls #veganbowl #socreamy #sofull #gobottomless
