One of our favorite ways of putting an extra kick into our Mexican-inspired dinners is to make a special type of margarita. Instead of preparing the traditional sweet and sour margaritas that are known and beloved by many, we like to add a special touch of spice into ours!

It isn’t too difficult to make spicy margaritas, but it’s important to know which ingredients to use. Check out these additions that can transform a normal margarita into a spicy wonderland.

Jalapeno Peppers

If you search for spicy margarita recipes, the most common ingredient that you will find, by far, is the jalapeno pepper. There’s a good reason for this, as jalapenos are spicy without being overwhelming and add a floral, pleasant taste and smell.

Tajin Spice

In Mexico, you will often find that margaritas are garnished with this spicy combination of Mexican spices. Containing chile peppers, salt, and lime, tajin perfectly complements the sour and sweet character of a classic margarita.

Habanero Peppers

Looking to turn up the temperature a bit? Try muddling habanero peppers and adding them into a margarita! Be careful, however, as jalapenos can end up being overwhelmingly spicy. It’s best to combine them with a sweeter variety of margarita, such as mango.
