There’s nothing quite like the comforting aroma of homemade baked beans filling your kitchen. This recipe delivers rich, smoky flavor with a touch of sweetness, perfect for any occasion. Serve these beans as a side dish or hearty main course, and enjoy the satisfaction of making them from scratch.
Ingredients:
- 2 cups of dried navy beans
- 1 onion, finely chopped
- 4 cloves garlic, minced
- 1/2 cup of ketchup
- 1/4 cup of molasses
- 1/4 cup of brown sugar
- 2 tablespoons mustard
- 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
- 1 teaspoon smoked paprika
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
- 4 cups of water
Instructions:
- Rinse the dried navy beans under cold water and remove any debris. Place the beans in a large bowl and cover with water. Soak the beans overnight or for at least 8 hours. Drain and rinse the beans before using.
- Preheat your oven to 300°F (150°C). In a large Dutch oven or oven-safe pot, combine the soaked navy beans, chopped onion, minced garlic, ketchup, molasses, brown sugar, mustard, Worcestershire sauce, smoked paprika, salt, pepper, and water. Stir to combine.
- Cover the pot with a lid or aluminum foil and bake in the preheated oven for 6 to 8 hours, or until the beans are tender and the sauce has thickened. Stir the beans occasionally during baking to ensure even cooking.
- Once the beans are done, remove them from the oven and let them cool slightly before serving. Taste and adjust seasoning if necessary.
